About Dhaka Metro Rail MRT Line-6

The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) operates the MRT Line-6, Bangladesh's first metro rail system. Construction began in 2017 with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and commercial operations launched in December 2022 with partial service from Uttara North to Agargaon. The full line to Motijheel was completed in 2024, making the entire 20.1 km elevated corridor operational with 17 stations. The metro has quickly become one of the most popular commuting options in Dhaka, carrying hundreds of thousands of passengers daily.

Each six-car train set can accommodate up to 2,308 passengers and operates at speeds up to 100 km/h. Trains run at 5-minute intervals during peak hours and 8–10 minute intervals during off-peak times. The entire fleet is air-conditioned and equipped with modern safety systems including platform screen doors, CCTV surveillance, and an advanced signaling system. Ticketing is available through single-journey tokens, the rechargeable MRT Pass (Rapid Pass), and mobile payment options. Future metro lines (MRT Line-1 and MRT Line-5) are currently under construction to further expand Dhaka's rapid transit network.
