Launch Travel Guide: Sadarghat to the Southern Districts
Sadarghat in Old Dhaka is the heart of Bangladesh's coastal water transport network. From here, dozens of launches depart daily to the southern districts.
Getting to Sadarghat
Sadarghat is accessible by CNG, rickshaw, or bus. The nearest major landmark is the Dhaka Medical College area. Expect heavy traffic, so arrive at least an hour before your scheduled departure.
Popular Routes
Dhaka to Barisal
The most popular launch route. Journey takes 8–10 hours overnight. Multiple operators offer services with fares starting from 350 BDT for deck class.
Dhaka to Patuakhali
A longer journey of 10–12 hours. Launches depart in the late afternoon and arrive early morning. Deck fares start around 400 BDT.
Dhaka to Bhola
Approximately 12–14 hours via the Meghna River estuary. This route serves many smaller islands along the way.

Tips
- Book your ticket at least one day in advance during holidays (Eid, Pohela Boishakh)
- Bring warm clothing — the river gets cold at night even in summer
