How to Read a Bus Route Number in Dhaka

Dhaka's bus numbering system can seem chaotic, but there are patterns. Here's how to decode it.

Number Ranges

Range	Area
1–20	Central Dhaka routes
21–40	Northern Dhaka (Mirpur, Uttara)
41–60	Eastern Dhaka (Basabo, Rampura)
61–80	Southern Dhaka (Motijheel, Jatrabari)
80+	Inter-district / long-distance

Letters and Suffixes

• "A" after a number = AC bus variant (e.g., 6A)
• "K" = Limited stop / express service
• "B" = Branch route

Color Coding

• Blue stripe — AC bus, higher fare
• Red stripe — Non-AC, standard fare
• Green stripe — GNFC/BRTC public buses

Real Example

Bus Route 4 runs from Motijheel to Mirpur 12. If you see 4A, it's the same route but with AC buses at a higher fare.
